Winston Churchill's extended family gave us their blessing to name the bar after their eminent ancestor and from that day, with the Churchill family's help, we are proud to have created a glamorous destination bar that a young Churchill and his beloved wife Clementine would have enjoyed visiting.
“I am easily satisfied with the very best” Winston Churchill
The design recognises, by way of contemporary touches, references to Churchill’s life in photography and art, in love and lifestyle and in travel and animals. Black & White photographs, original love letters and soft toy animals adorn the shelves.
Our elegant library, curated by local specialist booksellers Daunt Books, includes a range of literature on modern subjects that a young Churchill and Clementine would have found fascinating – art, travel, politics, gardening, fashion and so forth. Please feel free to leaf through the books as you wish, we hope you find them as fascinating as we do.
P.S Look out for Jock, Rufus and Pig – the knitted animals that emulate Churchill’s use of soft toys as book markers in his library at Chartwell. The animals also reflect the signature pictures Sir Winston and Clementine used when writing love letters, Sir Winston was a dog (or often a pig) and Clementine, a cat.
The Churchill Bar's menu is bursting with craft cocktails, each telling their own enchanting story, inspired by everything from Churchill's time in the Cabinet War Rooms (check out the smoking 'Never Give In'), tea pot cocktails from the prohibition era and a range of frequently changing seasonally themed cocktails to accompany the terrace theme. Many of the cocktails are made with The Churchill Bar's very own bespoke Churchill Craft Gin, created with Sacred Microdistellery.
“ I made it a rule never to take strong drink before lunch. It is now my rule never to do so before breakfast” Winston Churchill
A selection of nearly 60 of the finest cigars, housed in a bespoke stained oak humidor, tempt even the most refined cigar connoisseurs. The Churchill bar team is on hand to dispense their expert knowledge and help advise guests on which cigar to try – whether it be one of the most sought after Havanas currently in production, Limited Editions, or Reservas such as the Romeo y Julieta - one of Churchill's favourite brands. The Churchill Bar & Terrace is delighted to host cigar evenings throughout the year
“I drink a great deal. I sleep a little, and I smoke cigar after cigar. That is why I am in two-hundred-percent form” Winston Churchill
